Tennis instruction in the US runs from a certified teaching pro giving private lessons on a park court to full academies with fitness staff, boarding and tournament travel. Private lessons are priced per hour, semi-private and group clinics cost less per player, and most clubs run junior programs after school and adult drills in the evening. The USTA organizes the national rating (NTRP) and the adult and junior leagues most players join; the USPTA and PTR certify coaches. Summer camps take kids by the week or the day and usually include lunch and match play. Stadiums and event venues host college matches, USTA sanctioned tournaments and the occasional exhibition, with free or low-cost admission for most of them.

I am from out of town and played there. The only reason I was able to play one game is because I was the first one there. Then after that, I waited for 3 games and seems like I no chance I would get in to play. They know each other there. The lady at the desk is nice but that crowd are RUDE and unwelcoming.

This will be my first preemptive review, having never been there. I was looking forward to coming there while in town, but the sheer amount of negative comments, all themed around the staff, compels me to not even try it out. Time for management to take a good, hard look inward and identify why they can’t seem to foster an environment that is typical of the majority of other YMCAs around the country. Embarrassing.

The front desk staff are VERY friendly and VERY helpful. We just signed up a couple months ago, and we have had a wonderful experience, both from the pool staff and the front desk staff. A tour was given our first day there, and all our questions were answered. My young granddaughter just started swimming lessons. She was apprehensive at first, but the pool manager helped her feel at ease with a little tour of the pool areas. The facilities are clean. The front desk remembers names and are always willing to help.

YMCA at state college has the worst customer service with no professional service and extremely lack of effective communication. I had three times communicating with front desk regarding refunds, membership fees, and swimming classes. However, they gave no helpful information but directed me the other staff who did not work in person at all. I am confused and suspicious that none of the key staff work on site, which can cause me extra time in communicating about small issues. Additionally, they provide no specific information about annual membership and benefits. I enrolled in their youth annual program hoping that my kids can have access to all sports facilities possible as a new resident. I was informed that there was another center at Bellfonte for small kids’ indoor sports after I enrolled in annual membership. I found the membership is not worthy at all for children’s swimming practice unless you can afford 450 dollars per year to pay double fees for both adult and youth membership. Ridiculous!

I was planning on giving this place 2 stars because I do like the pools, gyms, and workout equipment overall. However the staff here are so incredibly awful it makes this place not even worth a membership or visit. I haven't tried the Bellefonte location yet, but I feel like if you live in the State College area and feel disappointed in their YMCA then I'd try that one instead. I feel bad though for anyone who don't have that as an option if it's too far from their house. Now not every staff is bad, but there's a lot of attitude from the front desk women in particular along with some of the men as well. You can't even have simple convos or ask questions because they'll roll their eyes or get annoyed by you. Almost everyone I see come in is incredibly nice too. It's not like they work at a cash register or in fast food so I don't get why they hate they're jobs so much and why they feel the need to take it out on members. Even the lifeguards are rude. Mainly the older ones. I used to help disabled people who went to the YMCA and the amount of discrimination and people treating you differently because your with someone disabled is also absolutely disgusting. The amount of attitude I
